    This is a great piece; I really like Barber's compositions and the text he used. It's easier to learn if you think of it as four songs of a cycle linked together. Dawn Upshaw has a great recording of this piece.

  • March 20, 2007 A must for any singer!

    The work is everything you'd expect from Barber: rhythmically difficult, dynamically charged, with languid sequences that seem to capture that which I would describe as "distinctly Southern." Mr. Barber's music is challenging at any level but, once learned, his music becomes a part of your soul. What genius...
