Kabuki Dance

Kabuki Dance composed by Richard Meyer. Orchestra. String Orchestra. String Explorer. Multicultural. Grade 1. Conductor Score & Parts. 72 pages. Published by Alfred Music (AP.22304).

This original piece features colors and tonalities seldom found in pieces for young orchestras. Written in ABA form, and very simple note-wise, this piece offers outstanding opportunities for improvement in rhythmic reading, dynamics, and pizzicato tone production. This piece was written for the training-level orchestra, but its sophisticated sound will make it appealing to second- and even third-year ensembles. Includes a third violin (viola treble clef) and piano accompaniment part.

  • December 23, 2009 Excellent!

As an elementary orchestra director, I love this piece! It is a challenging triple meter piece for a 5th grade orchestra and includes a hemiola or two but my students are doing very well and loving it. It has nice contrasts, is not too short, and with an energy kids...

will dig into. I did change the beginning from arco to pizz. Made more sense to me.
