  • April 28, 2009 Great for beginners of all ages.

I teach all ages as beginners. This book is not too fast and not to repetative so it is great for all ages. I reccommend it to any piano teacher for their students. I actually switched from another book to this one.

  • April 10, 2009 Been around since 1945 for a reason!!

I started using this method approximately three years ago after trying Alfred, Bastien, and other series. This has been the best by far! It moves along at a comfortable pace that students seem to really enjoy. "The Funny Bunny" tends to make young, beginning students feel like they are playing...

something fabulous. "Hot Dog Stand" has just enough movement and such a great tune that every single student has loved (even older beginners). I can see why this book has been around so long.

  • October 14, 2008 Great series, wonderful method

Young children benefit from this great method of learning piano. It is the same one that I learned with as a young child, and I am finding it easy to teach my niece using John W. Schaum's orderly method. The best pianists begin with a good foundation, and this...

series has it. I use the adult series to teach adults, also.

Teachers who have taken a course in piano pedagogy realize that research into how students best learn does not support the methodology of this course. Schaum has written another course, the "Making Music Method," which is much more in line with current research. I would recommend that teachers who are...

comfortable with Schaum consider using that course intead of this one as their primary method. The best approach to teaching music reading emphasizes intervals, not individual notes. The Making Music Method does that; this course does not. That said, there are a lot of good arrangements of classical pieces in this course, making it very useful for supplemental work. I really appreciate the fact that the finger numbers were taken out, and that the music was freshly engraved.

  • May 29, 2008 My 1st Songbook

I feel the John W. Schaum songbooks are the easiest books to play from. They provide basic music that kids like to play. Some of the other series do not apply to kids the way these books do. I recommend the John W. Schaum series to my piano students.
