One the best technique books out there. Most the excersises are excellent except for the sweeping lesson which I found some what weak. An interesing part is expanding chords which is very useful and not in any other technique book. This book is something that will be usefull for years...

but requires the dedication of playing almost every day for a couple hours at least to make any significant improvment in your playing. I would also recoment the dvd which makes things clearere and is very inspiring.

If you've reached the point in your guitar practice where it seems dull, then BUY THIS BOOK! It's a necessity for intermediate guitarists to masters. I've been using it, and I've been excited about a daily regiment. John has introduced etudes, mirror shapes, alternate picking exercises...

, sweep picking exercises, fragments which help you build speed in your fingers, and the string skipping exercises are phenomenal. Everything in here requires a working knowledge of using a pick. If you know your modes, pentatonics, chords and arpeggios, but you just don't know where to look next, then allow "Rock Discipline" to change your life. This book--it's examples and exercises--has made me comfortable in my relationship to the fretboard. My fingers are ready for anything thanks to John's practicing suggestions. Thank You, John, personally your book is one in just a few that I carry around with me all the time.

I found most of the exercises in this book to be very helpful. This book is for beginners who want to give their skills a big leap forward. I am an intermediate player and still I had a substantial improvement in my skills. The book got one star less because...

some exercises were not useful IMHO. Overall, the book is still a great buy. Every guitarist should have this book as part of his skill-building routines. :)
