The Jazzabilities series introduces the student to the sounds of jazz through short exercises and performance pieces. The emphasis is on developing rhythmic control through jazzy melodic and harmonic bits- in essence, building a jazz vocabulary. Many beginning jazz method or repertoire books are designed for the more experienced student. Jazzabilities Book 1 is written for the later elementary level student. It uses rhythmic durations and hand positions consistent with most level 2 method books. Swing eighths and bluesy accidentals are used throughout. There are no triplets in Book 1. The key to any successful performance is rhythmic control. Jazzabilities helps develop this control by isolating and mastering short rhythmic patterns before playing them. There are clear and simple instructions for the student and teacher in the book's introduction. Basic improvisation is also introduced.

I started to use this book instead of the method books and loving it! Short tunes, great accompaniment, focus on rhythm first, improvisation using the rhythm learnt on just 3 notes, the use of black keys straight away, ear training. It's all in one. My students are loving it...

too. For some it was a kick start into composition, to my surprise and delight. Others like playing the tunes both hands in parallel motion. I'm ordering book 2 & 3 now, can't wait to study. them myself.

My students love this book! It's a good summer project also. Each lesson is broken down to a week's work. They learn so much about jazz idioms and improvisation while having fun. The CD accompaniment is tasteful and a huge help for those students with rhythm problems. My...

students practice more using this book so I love it too!
