    Difficulty Level:
  • February 19, 2009 A Great Book

I thought this book was terrific; so much so that I sent an E-Mail to the arranger telling him so. I did point out that I made a few modifications in some of the arrangements so as to tone down some of the dissonances. He came back with a...

very kind reply, pointing out that some of the dissonances were actually inadvertent errors. I particularly liked the fact that although the arrangements were easy to play, they were very sophisticated.

    Difficulty Level:
  • July 14, 2008 Authentically Professional, Cool Jazz

This book is the best thing that ever happened for my piano teaching. Tom Coppola's arrangements are authentically professional yet remarkably easy to play. At first my students cannot "hear" the subtle chord variations, because they are used to more straightforward sounds. Then I record their playing, and, upon...

playback, they are amazed and delighted at how good they sound. Then they return to the piano with hearing more attuned to what they are doing, and they suddenly love these arrangements more than anything else they play. Utterly cool jazz: rich, beautiful, smooth, luxurious. How I wish Coppola would produce dozens more of these! Please!

  • October 07, 2007 disappointing stuff

the arrangements are far too simple and although there are a few good chord changes the result is uninteresting. Also the beginnings endings etc. are just plainly absent.

    Difficulty Level:
  • September 02, 2007 I've Seen Much Better Arrangements

Written as is I did not find this book refreshing. Yeah, you can spice it up a little bit by improvising on the provided chords, but I like to play beautiful arrangements by professional pianists. Most of the arrangements are too simplistic for my tastes, or the chord progressions leave...

me unsatisfied. However, one piece I really like is "How High the Moon", with very nice chord progressions.
