I prefer some sort of "arrangement" of the pieces to add to the rhythm and feel of the cpmpositions. For instance I have ,Round Midnight arr. by Robert Schultz which is a Knock-Out and also Waltz for Debbie arr.Bill Boyd which is pianist friendly and yet sounds authentic...

  • May 04, 2006 Excellent compilation

This is an excellent book to have in your collection. There are over 50 standards in this book and they are actually written quite nicely. Good arrangements w/ room for improvisation. Even if you play it straight you'll enjoy it. It's at an intermediate level -- but some of...

the pieces can be considered advanced if you are playing up to tempo and want to get the syncopation right...i.e. giant steps...etc. Otherwise - it will be enjoyable and somewhat challenging for an intermediate pianist and a breeze for an advanced pianist -- yet still fun to play. Overall - a great and thorough compilation. At this price, i'd highly recommend it. The "waltz for debby" isn't the same key or style as the one on "moonbeams" (bill evans) and i don't care for the take five arrangement...otherwise i would recommend.
