  • July 16, 2011 Just a standard songbook

This is a disappointing songbook; not really Janis at all, just some transcriber making sheet music as fast as possible and then binding it all into a "collection." Very disappointing. For example, "Summertime" isn't Janis' version at all. Its just the standard sheet music version from the 30s - that...

I already had in my drawer from the 30s!

  • December 31, 2006 Not what it's cracked up to be!!!

This book has a limited overview of her songs. There is no detail and keys have been changed to cater more for the beginners market. When I first saw it I thought it was part of an easy piano series. Dissappointed. There is limited Janis Joplin sheet music and this...

book doesn't help to fill the void.

  • July 21, 2004 this book is crap!

it doesn't even include instrumental solos, and everything is in the same key. the notes to the melody aren't even right, and some of the lyric are incorrect. how do you write a piano and guitar book without including the solos? the whole reason i bought this was...

to play that, not just a few chords. [Editor's Note - HL.699131 Janis Joplin: The Best of Janis Joplin is written in guitar tab.]

  • April 30, 2003 Misleading Description Not As Performed

Be careful. This book is not properly described. "A collection of 16 Joplin classics AS PERFORMED LIVE AND ON RECORDS from 1963-70 ..." (emphasis added). For example, Janis performs Me and Bobby McGee starting in the key of G and then moves to the key of A. She also does...

some "vocal scat" and the accompaniment builds at the end. In this book, the song is written in the key of C and has no "scat" or accompaniment build. If you are going to describe it "as performed," then it should be more than incomplete lyrics, in the wrong key(s), and totally lacking in quality accompaniment. I didn't expect a complete, detailed version with all instruments fully scored, but when described "AS PERFORMED" I expected at least the right key and complete lyrics / song length.
