Johann Sebastian Bach's spirited F-minor concerto is wonderfully compact, of a manageable length for the student player, and displays all the wonderful qualities associated with the granddaddy of the keyboard. Great fun to learn and play! Its companion on this disc is a concerto long attributed to Johann Christian Bach, but now proven to belong to one of Bach's lesser-known sons, Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach, who was a skillful composer, as this marvelous gem will testify. It is perfect for the beginning student, a wonderful preparation for the Mozart concerti. Includes a second compact disc with a special slow-tempo version of the accompaniments to help you get up to speed.

Includes a newly engraved, authoritative printed solo part (with orchestral reduction) with orchestral reduction, printed on high-quality ivory paper; and a compact disc containing a complete version with soloist, in digitally remastered stereo; then a second digitally remastered stereo version of the orchestral accompaniment, minus the soloist; and a second compact disc containing the complete version of the concerto, followed by a -20% slow-tempo version of the accompaniments for practice purposes.

Great release, everything is clear and transparent. I recommend for all beginners (and not only) musicians. Excellent help in ripping the orchestra.

Overall, the outer movements of both concerti are not bad. The tempo is good and the orchestra plays well and (mostly) in tune. The real problem is the slow movements. And by slow I mean s----l-----o----w. It is hard to shape phrases at the glacial pace given...

here. But it is still a good filler until the time when you can perform these with your own orchestra.

  • May 20, 2008 J.S.BACH Concerto in F minor, BWV1056 Minus One

The CD provides very clear and temporally accurate presentation of the music in full performance, and in orchestral minus piano. The printed music is clear, crisp and well produced. The package is convenient, and well designed. An overall very satisfactory experience.
