  • July 29, 2015 Best yet!

This series starts on the staff! You don't pay for a half of a book that is too easy for most children. I don't know what kind of method you would call this - I would call it: a method that works! The best part about this method is...

that the songs stand the test of time for the teacher, student, and family! This moves the student fast enough to learn easy classical pieces in their first year of piano. It arranges success for everyone! Enjoy!

  • April 10, 2010 My favorite method

I was recently introduced to this method when I started teaching again and it became my preferred choice. The series is visually appealing, and the pace at which new things are introduced seems interest-retaining and attainable to students. I supplement this method for students who have keyboards by adding...

chords above the notes for certain songs in the book so, in addition to playing the songs as written, students can learn to use their keyboard "band in the box" feature of and make music they can play for and sing with their family.

  • May 28, 2008 OK for the slow student

This series offers an all-in-one course for teachers who like the "old school" middle C one-note-at-a-time approach to teaching. Most teaching research runs contrary to that approach for most students. But some students who lack spatial reasoning skills are hindered with the modern intervallic...

approach, and for them (only), this makes an OK choice. Progress in the series is rather slow, and the pieces are mostly in the keys of C, G, and F. Most of the pieces are in melody-chord style. By level 7, the student will encounter some classical works in original form. Unlike most old school courses, this series does teach the correct realization of ornaments, and there are great units on the periods of music history. As a whole, this series represents the epitome of the dumbing-down trend of education in general. For the slow kids, that it fine. For the rest of them, there are far better programs available.
