    Montclair, NJ
    Difficulty Level:
  • April 20, 2011 Amazing edition

This is one of the first henle editions I ever bought. The content is impeccable, with beautiful non-glare paper and very clear printing. There are no page turns because every piece takes up exactly two pages. My copy is quite beaten up because I have learned all of the...

inventions and sinfonias, so I did some preventive taping to keep it from falling apart, but this was probably unnecessary. The inventions and sinfonias are incredible pieces which are not only good for your technique, but are the best examples of counterpoint in the world. Even invention no. 1 contains more contrapuntal intricacies than anything I could dream of writing. My personal favorite is Sinfonia no. 9 in f minor. It is one of the most touching pieces I have played, rivaling Chopin and Liszt. This is definately the easiest-to-use, most beautiful edition of the inventions and sinfonias.

    Vernon, CT
    Difficulty Level:
  • December 06, 2009 Superior Edition

This is one of the best editions of the two and three part inventions on the market. I prefer the edition with fingering. The research behind this edition gives the user a reliable, authentic urtext edition that can be trusted; every note is what Bach wrote. This work does include...

some editorial suggestions for ornaments that are in keeping with authentic baroque performance, but those ornaments are in smaller print. Teachers might also like the Vienna Urtext edition or the Barenreiter. But this edition seems to be the most user-friendly one for teaching students who are just encountering urtext editions for the first time.

    Georgetown, TX
    Difficulty Level:
  • March 12, 2009 Inventionen-Sinfonien

My order arrived quickly, well-wrapped. The music is well-bound and very-clearly printed. My only complaint is that the markings for incidentals are so tiny I must often get up-close to decipher them. That quibble does not lessen my appreciation of this fine, clean edition of these...

    New York, NY
    Difficulty Level:
  • March 13, 2008 Beautiful but overedited

As with all Henle editions, the paper, the engraving, the layout are all beautiful. My only criticism is that many editorial ornaments appear that are only slightly smaller than the ones Bach himself wrote. They are good suggestions, but not always in line with my interpretation; they are distracting. I...

would prefer that they be more discreet, perhaps in a different color, a la Alfred's Bach editions.

    Naperville, IL
    Difficulty Level:
  • March 12, 2008 Best Book on Bach Inventions/Sinfonias

I like this version because it does not mark dynamics. Bach did not mark dynamics and leaves it to the eye of the beholder. Consider the difference in the recordings from Gould or Schiff. Different interpretations. This book give you the flexibility under instructor guidance to experiment with the different...
