Introduction and Variations on 'Engelberg'
Organ - Advanced Intermediate
Composed by Charles Villiers Stanford, 1904. Arranged by Gary R. Smoke. Baroque Period, Contemporary Classical, Sacred, General Worship, Repertoire. Score. 7 pages. Published by Gary R. Smoke (S0.140095).
Item Number: S0.140095
A setting of Stanford's tune "Engelberg" (used often for the hymn 'When in our music God is glorified'). For organ (two manuals and pedal). Commissioned in 2015 by the South Highland Presbyterian Church Music Ministry in honor of Joyce Jennings, organist 1993-2008.
The introduction is based on motifs taken from the hymn tune. The first variation is for two manuals: solo right hand and soft accompaniment. The second variation is also for two manuals and pedal (it may be played on a single manual, as well). It features a contrapuntal accompaniment with the hymn tune. The third variation is a homophonic setting of the tune alternating with festive flourishes which eventually become the coda for the piece. ca. 4:30
Good for church, concert or teaching.
