Merula suggests an instrumentation of voice, two violins, violone and continuo. The continuo works really well on organ, since there are a lot of special chords in the music. Also harpsichord works fine. This edition is urtext, which means that it is taken exactly from the manuscript. Also the original clefs are kept. If you are looking for an edition with modern clefs, please look for "Iesu Dulcis Memoria (modern clefs)" on this website. As far as I know, this piece has never been published in a modern version and is very rarely performed.
