I love these arrangements (as well as everything else I have played by this composer)! I am an advanced viola player and I love playing these with my violinist friend (who is also advanced), as well as with my daughter, who is learning to play the violin. My daughter is...

11 years old and plays at an early intermediate level. The 1st violin parts are very accessible to her--she gets the simpler, melody part and I get a more challenging and interesting harmony part (for a violist these will involve occasional shifting to 3rd position, a 2nd violin would be able to play in 1st position). The piano parts are truly optional as I have performed several of these with only the two string players and they are beautiful arrangements.

  • 2012-12-31 00:00:00.0 love this compilation!

Our violin instructor stumbled across these in November. My kids (Suzuki book 3/4) learned half of them and performed them for church, recitals, etc. Everyone is so impressed with how wonderful they sound and I've enjoyed accompanying them on the piano. Very nice arrangements, not just scratchy straight...

    melodies. Highly recommended!

  • 2009-11-07 00:00:00.0 No Christmas burnout here!

As a music instructor and director of a local youth orchestra and violin ensemble, I am so thrilled, as usual, to receive this music today. The Violin 1 part is suitable for late beginners and early intermediates with no shifting. More experienced players should really be able to play these...

pieces well, with swelling dynamics and developed vibratos. The Violin 2 part, although not difficult, at times requires 3rd position which a more experienced, albeit less showy, solid 1st violinist player should be able to handle well. I am sticking my 3rd best violinist on this part (good with notes, just not as pretty of a player). The concert should be very solid. If you have not listened to the music samples, do so. It's not your average, boring orchestration of Christmas music. There is much to enjoy and discover rhythmically and tonally that will keep you from burning out on Christmas music.
