Moderately Easy - For years, Mark Hayes has provided church pianists with brilliant arrangements of hymns, suitable for preludes, offertories and concert solos. Now he turns his attention to another practical need: inventive harmonizations to enhance the accompaniment of congregational singing. Mark has chosen 50 of the most popular hymns--suitable for general worship throughout the year--and re-harmonized them in his unique style. They are presented in a spiral-bound format for easy use next to a hymnal on your piano's music rack. As an added bonus, a CD-ROM is included, containing PDFs of all the hymns in multiple keys to match the most commonly used hymnals. You can print these files to insert in your own "service notebook" or however you please. This practical volume will add new freshness to your hymn accompaniments.

    Difficulty Level:
  • July 16, 2009 Beautiful Hymn Arrangements

I love all of Mark Hayes' arrangements, and I own most of his books, but this one was definitely a great investment that I anticipate using for a long time. The new chords make classic hymns come alive in a new way for me. These are easy enough to sight...

read, but they don't seem "simple." The chord symbols allow me to improvise and add my own flair to the arrangements. I am a church pianist, so this is a great resource when I need a quick prelude and have no time to practice. This book is definitely a "keeper." I hope Mr. Hayes will publish another volume!
