Hungarian Rhapsody for Intermediate String Quartet (Score & Parts)
Hungarian Rhapsody for Intermediate String Quartet (Score & Parts) composed by Anita Hewitt Jones (1926-2007). For string quartet (2 violins, viola, cello). Score and Parts. Published by Musicland (PE.M01145).
An exciting new string quartet suitable for Grade 5/6 players, beautifully playable (as always with the works of Anita Hewitt-Jones). The strong opening theme makes a feature of the augmented second interval so characteristic of Hungarian folk music, and the more lyrical major theme in 7/8 accompanied by pizzicato arpeggio figurations makes a telling contrast. The ABABA form covers a wide spectrum of keys and instrumental colours, making it as interesting to listen to as it is to play.
