  • July 20, 2007 Nice introduction to a timeless classic

I think the entire album is phenomenal. But you probably already think that, or you wouldn't be here. For a guitarist with some experience, the bare bones chords approach is plenty enough to begin with. Once you gain a basic understanding, you can start to pick out melodies from...

the piano section. And you have a decent ear, don't you? That's all a musician needs to gain access. Before you know it, you'll be knee deep into the soul and swing of it. Even advanced transcriptions have errors, and there's always more than one way to skin a cat, so don't sweat it. Unless you know Natalie on a first-name basis, this is all you'll have, and it's more than enough.

  • April 29, 2003 Adequate for Guitarists

This review is from a guitarist's perspective. As with many P/V/G collections the guitar chords are basic and simplistic. There is only one song "More Love" that suggests a capo, while I know that many of these songs require a capo to be played correctly. What "Home...

" deserves is a transcribed score with the guitar, fiddle, banjo, dobro, mandolin, and bass written out completely, similiar to the new Nickel Creek transcriptions. But until that happens, if it happens at all, this collection allows a guitarist to at least strum through the basic chords for each song, even if they aren't exact. It does get points for a nice presentation with photos from the CD booklet, and separate lyrics. It's a handsome songbook.

All the songs are amazing. Especially travling soldier. It has a touching story behind it. White Trash Wedding is a fast pace bluegrass song that is fun to sing along. I Believe in Love is a slow romantic song. Best the chicks have ever done!
