Fellow composer Jerome Kern once said of Irving Berlin: 'Irving Berlin has no place in American music. He is American music.' Berlin wrote over 1,500 songs in his lifetime, many of which are now staples of the Great American Songbook. He also composed the music for 19 Broadway shows (most notably Annie Get Your Gun) and 18 Hollywood films.
