  • December 21, 2013 Popper High School Etudes (Rummel)

The ├ętudes are great for every aspiring cellist, however, this edition, in which the editor tried to "modernize" Popper.s original fingerings, removes the pedagogical value of what Popper gave us. By simplifying many of the fingerings, the student is not challenged to make full use of the left hand...

fingering patterns and possibilities. The print is easy to read, the fold out pages helpful, but ignore the fingerings !

  • November 29, 2013 Disappointment

An excellent, elaborate critical edition, superb layout and paper quality, which however proved a disappointment, because the music has been edited, fingerings been changed without them being preserved in the Kritischer Bericht. The editorial commentary is highly subjective and unhistorical, predominantly directed toward "modern" playing techniques (which change with every...

generation). The original fingerings I found on line almost always suit me better. Whoever wants to find out what Popper intended, should not purchase this edition.

  • November 30, 2010 excellent produciton values

An excellent version of the famous study book by popper. The music is highly legible and considerately arranged with pull-out pages to avoid awkward page turns. It is a tad expensive but will last many years and is worth the investment.

  • May 02, 2010 The BEST edition of these studies!

There is no better edition for these 40 studies than this one. These studies are an absolute must for all advancing cellists, and finding an edition I can whole-heartedly recommend to students is very important. I own both the Schirmer and the International editions, but Barenreiter does it best...

. There are fold out pages to avoid page turns, it comes with a list of studies related to each etude (amazing for both teachers and students), AND I have yet to stumble across a typo. Absolutely amazing... I think I'm in love!
