Though this celebratory Hebrew folk song has ancient origins (the title means Let Us Rejoice), the person responsible for its popularity is Abraham Zevi Idelsohn, the father of Jewish musicology. In 1918 he orchestrated the tune and added simple lyrics to celebrate the British victory in Palestine during World War I. In this setting for student strings, liberties can be taken with the tempo and everyone is given a chance to play melody and moving lines. Duration ca. 1:55.

Students will require a good knowledge and skill set of and for harmonic minor scales, especially in the final measures of the piece. Enjoyable piece.
