Brass Quintet - Advanced Intermediate
Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn (1809-1847). Arranged by F. Leslie Smith. Christmas. Score, Set of Parts. 14 pages. Published by Sweetwater Brass Press (S0.87467).

Item Number: S0.87467

The melody that we now sing with this carol was composed 100 years after Charles Wesley first wrote the words. It was an English musician, William H. Cummings, who in 1855 adapted Mendelssohn’s Festgesang to fit the lyrics.

In this arrangement Trumpet 1 begins solo, soon joined by Trumpet 2, then Horn, then Trombone and finally Tuba; by the end of the first time through, all instruments are playing. The second time through is a graceful variation, the melody passing from instrument to instrument, which ends with an exultant restatement of the theme.

This arrangement was completed in 2012, and performance time runs about 1 minute, 51 seconds. This version is also available for brass quintet with a second trombone (instead of Horn in F).
