Concert band - Grade 4.5
Composed by Andrew Boysen. Bandworks. Score. Published by Neil A. Kjos Music Company (KJ.WB314F).

Item Number: KJ.WB314F

Dedicated to those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The five movements, Introit, Kyrie, Dies Irae, Sanctus and Angus Dei, outline the general form of a Requiem Mass. Boysen transforms the first seven notes of the somber Gregorian Chant melody, the "Dies Irae," throughout the piece. The chant makes a full and frightening appearance at the end of the third movement, only to be disguised in the fourth movement by the enchanted sounds of the mallet percussion. Grant Them Eternal Rest is a monumental addition to the canon of wind literature.

2010 Missouri All-State Band, Dr. Boysen conducting. This piece is truly a gem that I'll never forget. To look out into the audience and see nearly everyone crying...Boysen truly knows what he's doing.

I played this piece in high school for district and state competition. The first time I heard it I cried for the whole song. On the podium, our director cried, and people in the audience cried as well. Beautiful song!
