  • November 14, 2008 One of the most important piano sonatas

Though rarely performed and recorded, this sonata was a major landmark in the Romantic period. It had a profound impact on its contemporary and later composers alike, particularly Liszt. This work appears to have propelled Liszt to compose his b-minor sonata, which borrows much from the second movement, "Quasi...

Faust." This music is not for the faint of the heart, but is immensely rewarding for those who have mastered the Hammerklavier, Liszt b-minor and other major works.

  • July 01, 2008 Incredibly DIFFICULT!

Alkan is awkwardly difficult as far as technique and skills required to analyze and perform the music and motion of his works. What makes it (relatively) less difficult is the quality of the binding, and the clarity and simplicity of reading such a monumental task. By far, I love the...

style of print, and the remarkable preservation of this wonderful text. Do keep in mind, this piece is VERY DIFFICULT. Compared to other composers, at worst, this is harder than Rachmaninoff and Liszt combined! Totally worth the investment for the library, and always enjoyable to read and to listen to/follow along.
