    Difficulty Level:
  • April 04, 2009 For folksong research...

A very nice collection of material, but not well-suited for the folksong researcher. The editor/s are quite open about making changes to tune and/or text when "singability and clarity of the basic ideas could be improved"(from the introduction). While making alterations to tune and/or text...

is a common practice for us all depending upon the situation of our singing, it is not acceptable for research where sources are needed that are as unaltered as possible (e.g. the Child Ballad collection, etc.). Overall, this is a nice resource for general singing, but not a "clean" source of material for the reasearcher.
