    Pittsburgh, PA
    Difficulty Level:
  • June 10, 2011 Godspell Vocal Score

I was recently in a production of GODSPELL and wanted this book to play the music on the piano. Let me just say...........this book is the best. It is easy for advanced players like myself but difficult for beginners. Stephen Schwartz was a genius when he wrote this score...

. I play this score "day by day". It brought back great memories. It makes me want to be singing WE BESEECH THEE again on the stage! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!

    Difficulty Level:
  • March 03, 2011 GREAT!!

It is exactly what you're looking for. Every song, every chord, every cue line, every instrument cue. It is a broadway level score. And if you're into actually reading the grand staff notes and not just improving on chords, most of it is surprisingly easy but not missing...

a single note. Just buy it! It's great!

    Difficulty Level:
  • June 06, 2009 Excellent for the serious player

I recently directed and played the piano in a production of Godspell, and this book was invaluable to me the entire time. I used the book to learn the piano part while teaching songs to the cast before our scripts arrived in the mail. It contains every note of music...

from every song exactly as it appears in the show--hence the $65 price tag. This includes the full piano part and every vocal harmony. As such, I'd recommend it most to someone who's staging a production of the show, or who isn't satisfied with the simpler arrangements in the Vocal Selections book. While none of the songs are exactly easy, the difficulty does vary. Prepare Ye and On the Willows are two of the easiest (partly because the pianist is singing during the latter!). Turn Back O Man and Alas For You, however, were quite tricky for me, even after ten years of piano lessons. So again, this is an excellent, accurate book well-suited for any director or serious fan of the show. Enjoy!
