Composed by 16th Century Traditional. Arranged by Jerry Gamble. Early Music,Christian,Sacred,Christmas,Latin. Sheet Music Single. 3 pages. Published by Jerry Gamble (S0.19734).

A bright a-capella piece, with its roots from the 16th Century .Originally sung as a chant by monks the natural timbre & flow of the prayer made it a natural to progress into a basic melody and, as with most music that remains with us, the rest is history.Gaudete is taken from the original Latin text. The first line of the Chorus, "Gaudete! Gaudete! Christus est natus, ex Maria, Virginae. Gaudete!" translates as "Rejoice! Rejoice! Christ is born of Mary, the Virgin. Rejoice!"Although it 'can' be played with hte piano playing the vocal parts, it is primarily intended as a-capella, in the same way as it would have been sung in the early days.Performance, as always, is up to interpretation, but as it's all very middle range, I would recommend that different people are selected from the choir, from different parts to take the verses as Solos. This has the advantage of adding variety to the sound, as well as making it easier, with less Latin to learn. Alternatively, of course it may all be sung by the choir throughout.
