My philosophy as a music teacher is to get the students playing music and LONGER pieces than the one liners in their method books. It teaches them to watch out for key signatures and they get to play enjoyable music they can perform for friends and family. The songs help...

them learn breathing and more notes quicker which in turn motivates them to practice. I use these books for all my students, including adults. Mel Bay did a good job as they are user friendly in the format and selections. Highly recommend.

By late winter, my beginning clarinet students need to play longer and more melodic music. They also need something that will inspire them to really learn those notes that go over the break. Many of the selections are in sharp keys, which will hopefully inspire young musicians to get away...

from playing in usual key signatures of 1 or 2 flats found in elementary band music.
