    Difficulty Level:
  • 2009-02-27 00:00:00.0 Instructive but dated

The instruction in this book is simple and for an avsolute novice/beginner. The progression of the chord instruction is good: starting with very simple, two chord songs; progressing to more advanced multiple and rapid chord change songs. However, and this was a killer for me, the songs are so...

dated. I understand the need for simplicity, but after the 10th, 20th, 30th, etc. repetition of "Home on the Range" or "She'll be coming 'round the Mountain", I was nearly insane. I enjoy Americana as much as the next person, however a few of the songs contain offensive racial language which is inappropriate for this day and age. I bought the accompaning CD which is not great. It provides some of the exercises, but all of the song have accompaniment from other instruments, which at times overlap the baritone ukulele and make them hard to follow.
