  • January 24, 2008 Useful, and easy to incorporate

The introductions are not hard to learn for someone of average ability (it's not for beginners, because it requires some independent pedal use; intermediates will be able to learn them easily with some practice; well-trained organists will find these to be useful and sight-readable; VERY well-trained...

organists probably improvise introductions of this quality and wouldn't need this book). The layout of the book makes it easy to use along with your hymnal accompaniment or vocal scores. As to quality of composition, some are interesting and really spice up your presentation of the carols, others seem a bit too ordinary - very much like the carols themselves. Overall, while not all 14 pieces will prove useful, there is enough here to be worth the price, and it definitely (and easily!) improved the Christmas services at my church.

These have a great sound, and a great variety. They are not too difficult for a relative novice to learn to play. Highly recommended.

  • November 01, 2004 EXCELLENT!!!!!

If you like Jerry Westenkeuhler's introductions and improvisations, you will love his Christmas carol introductions. Although some are a bit lengthy, they can be easily modified into the time frame that you need for a congregation. All introductions are very festive and give a clear stopping point before the...

congregation joins. I would also recommend all of his other organ works!
