    The Caprices are technically challenging in their original forms for the violin; while some of these difficulties have been eliminated (eg. double stops) to better fit the clarinet, the resulting transcription remains supremely formidable for the clarinetist. Certain passages are simply not idiomatic -- albeit not impossible -- for the instrument. On...

    the other hand, this is thrilling music that will push one's technical and musical boundaries. The print itself is highly legible, though maybe slightly crowded at times (this is violin music after all). Overall, a classic transcription with good versatility. These can be used as study etudes, but there is enough music in here to program in a recital or as encores. For reference, here is Giampieri's numbering of each caprice and its corresponding place in Paganini's original: G1 = P22, G2 = P9, G3 = P19, G4 = P21, G5 = P13, G6 = P5, G7 = P16, G8 = P15, G9 = P20, G10 = P23, G11 = P3, G12 = P17, G13 = P10, G14 = P11
