    Difficulty Level:
  • December 20, 2011 excellent play-a-long

What I like about Jim Chapin's play-a-longs is that first rate Jazz musicians are used and the arrangements are enjoyable to play. Also, a very nice aspect is that "two" possible interpretations of the chart are given. One is audio with Jim playing on the tracks with...

drums. The other (a separate interpretation) is written in conjunction with the arrangement. This reinforces that there are many different ways to approach a chart and gives the student many ideas to work with when playing the tracks without drums. As a professional Jazz drummer who has taught at the college level for over many years, I wholeheartedly endorse this product.

I use Play-Along Cd's in teaching my drum students. Most of these CD's are rock, so it's nice to throw in a little jazz from time to time. The recording is good and the scores are fairly easy to read.
