Flute Primer is a beginner's guide to the flute that is especially useful for the trial or rental period. The emphasis of this book is on the establishment and development of sound fundamental skills including the embouchure (lip position), tone production, and other basic techniques. The text begins with a fingering chart followed by a photo essay on the assembly and care of your instrument. Hand, sitting, and embouchure positions are all carefully described and illustrated. Through photographs and diagrams, each natural note in the middle range of the flute is introduced. As in most introductory Mel Bay method books, elements of note reading and music theory are introduced as required by the book's elementary level repertoire. This approach provides the essential ingredients for making music at the beginning level without overwhelming the student. The beginning student will enjoy progressing through this gently nurturing introducing method while establishing a sound technical foundation. This simple method is ideal for young children who will love the bigger notes.

this book is simply terrible for beginners. it goes from basic notes to ties in two pages. it also needs a CD so that one can listen to the notes and their tones. no lessons on embouchure and that takes a while to master. not worth it. I strongly recommend...

This is an excellent book for beginning flutists. Lou Hittler was MY flute teacher over 30 years ago (in Missouri) and when I discovered that this book came with my own daughter's first flute, I was thrilled. Easy to read fingering chart is even included. Lots of fun tunes...

    to motivate beginners.
