  • March 26, 2008 great book with CD

This book is great for the begginer. I especially like the CD that the student can practice with to help with timing, intonation and rhythmn. It is great for students whose parents are not musical because they can listen with them and help in areas they need coaching.

  • May 12, 2005 Awesome!!!

I began teaching myself violin on Christmas Day 2004. I avoided classical music until I ordered this wonderful book! I can't believe how easy it is to play and how beautifully it sounds with the instumental CD. This is one of the best beginner books/cds I have bought...

so far, which also brings up the fact that it does not sound childlike at all. I am extremely pleased with this unit and I would highly recommend it. How I wish there were more like this to buy!

The Mel Bay's Series by Craig Duncan are excellent! I received a violin two weeks ago as a gift and in this time, using the CD that accompany's the book, I've seen rapid progress from knowing nothing about a violin! Though I do play the Organ, notes...

are not a problem to learn, but the fingering and proper positioning is a new challenge and with the CD, one can hear if you're on pitch, etc. It's nice to know that already in two weeks I am able to play a few melodies! The basic technique and reading skills, scales, etc. make practice more enjoyable. I am very satisfied in being able to teach myself for the beginning before going on for further studies. Thank you Craig Duncan!
