This book is fun to use, the combination of etudes with comparable classical pieces helps you not only to improve finger dexterity, but helps you to slide gradually into playing more complex authentic pieces

  • July 09, 2008 Great for starters

Excellent progression of scales/technical exercises interwoven with little music pieces which may carry forward something from the last exercise. Each piece is small enough to let you focus quickly on the targets within, and drawn from a vast range from the trite to the obscure. Would get 5 stars...

if it named the keys of the exercises.

I use Rooda every day (as recommended by my teacher) for warm ups and just plain joy of playing. The author includes not only dexterity exercises, nicely organized by interval (2nds, 3rds, etc.), but also short classical compositions(including Bach, Telemann, and Haydn) and folk music that exemplify the exercise...

they are grouped with. Exercise keys range from 4 sharps to 3 flats, compositions from 2 flats to 2 sharps. Text is Dutch with an English translation. The book itself is compact and fits into the average handbag. And the price can't be beat!

  • February 07, 2008 Deals with too few keys

This book seems to be for people who are just beginning to be introduced to music itself, not just the recorder. The book deals with 8 major key signatures out of a possible 15 major and 15 minor. The pieces progress in difficulty slowly, but when learning something new (such...

as slurring or sixteenth notes) then the difficulty becomes much easier again. If you only want to study recorder as a fun thing to do then this book will be great for you. If you are more serious about your playing, however, then find another method book.

  • October 12, 2007 A must have book

This book is a must have for all recorder players. It has helped me progress from a beginner to a beginner/intermediate player. It probably helps to take lessons. The practice pieces help to perfect my playing. My goal when I bought it was to play every piece and I...

am a now a few pages from the end. Thanks to my teacher she helped me through it and I can now play most pieces on my own without a lesson.
