I am THRILLED to have discovered the Fiddle Time series. For years I have looked for a fun, thorough, full-color, modern beginning violin method for young children similar to some of the wonderful programs for piano. I have FINALLY found it! This little book begins with fun word rhythms...

and songs on all four strings and then introduces the basic 1 23 finger pattern. It includes non-staff simplified notation (notes w/note names inside) for all the standard beginner songs - hot cross buns, au clair de la lune, mary had a little lamb, twinkle, lightly row, jingle bells, frere jaques, old macdonald, and others. The full color illustrations on each page are charming without being too babyish. (My 6-year-old loved them!) It also has a few introductory theory concepts and basic improvising prompts. Would be a great supplement for Suzuki teachers though it is strong enough to stand alone. This is now the first book I will use for all my beginners under age 10!
