This book was suggested for my 8-year-old daughter by her violin teacher. The book is attractive and the music is appealing. She enjoys the rhythms and the tunes.

I will have to stand corrected regarding FIDDLE RHYTHMS and STRING RHYTHMS being exactly the same book. Upon a very quick glance they do appear to have exactly the same songs. HOWEVER, for the most part, songs in STRING RHYTHMS written in D Major are written in A Major in...

FIDDLE RHYTHMS. Songs in C Major are usually the same in both books (hence the mistake upon first glance). There are a few other key variations between the books. So choose according to level of your student.

  • June 22, 2007 Teach rhythm with words!

First, please note that FIDDLE RHYTHMS and STRING RHYTHMS are the same book. I didn't realize that when purchasing them. They have different covers but are exactly the same on the inside. That said, these are great books for teaching young students different rhythms. They get a handle on...

the rhythm by saying a familiar word or series of words. You are able to teach the rhythm before the child might actually be able to recognize it in written form by using the word(s) with a standard starter song like "Twinkle, Twinkle". Though rated for beginners, students would have to be able to read music to start in the book, but as I said the concept can be used for simpler songs at the beginning level.
