Many of the settings can be used as free harmonizations for congregation singing; shorter introductions can also be used as interludes between stanzas.

I'm writing this review, just to bump up the stars from 4.5 to 5. My review is what the other guys said. You'll use this book, frequently. They sound 'advanced', but 'intermediate' to play, depending on your registrations. They give a solid hymn tune to remind the congregation...

, but with beautiful harmonizations. I miss Dale Wood!

This is a really great book for a few reasons. All of the intros are suitable for a regular Sunday morning. They aren't flashy and over the top. They are perfect for the average church and aren't ridiculous to play. Also there are a decent number of them...

(though I still want more!) and not like those expensive books where you get all of 4 introductions. I'd highly recommend this book!

    Difficulty Level:
  • March 08, 2009 Solid Arrangements for most all organists

These are good, solid arrangements that can work even as free accompaniment (e.g. Come Thou Fount). I'm glad I purchased them. Not flashy, but not "out there" and confusing to a congregation. I would purchase again.

  • February 04, 2009 Finally, useable hymn introductions!

Just what the organist ordered! Most of us don't play in huge cathedrals and don't need 5-minute long elaborate hymn introductions that take two-months to learn, but that's what we usually get when we buy a collection of the same... Then we have to re...

-write them to fit a "normal" service! Finally, a book with intros written for every-week use. The only drawback to this book is that we need more like it!

    Difficulty Level:
  • March 27, 2007 Useful, yet incomplete

This book has some very popular hymn titles in it, with truly festive introductions. As good as it is, there's just not quite enough, but it is a good suppliment to further hymn intro books.
