This is a nice book. If you are looking for a more Hymn/piano like way of playing you have found it. I use this book to play the prelude of my church’s service. The tunes are easily recognizable as they are written out just like most church pianists...

would play them (very chordal). The book does require some use of barring and some position playing so it is best suited for the late beginner or intermediate. Some of the songs are traditionally fast, though Castle gives no suggestion on tempo, and this makes some of the arrangements quite difficult.

    Difficulty Level:
  • January 24, 2008 Good selection, well arranged

For the Early Intermediate to Intermediate player this selection is excellent. There is some knowledge of the upper positions required but the arrangements will help the player learn these positions. There are no complex arpeggios with the melody embedded which are so difficult to play well. So this is a...

great resource for the average player, yet not so simple as to be boring.
