Concert Band - Grade 2
Composed by Gustav Holst (1874-1934). Arranged by Michael Story. Concert Band. Belwin Young Band. Form: Fantasia. Conductor Score & Parts. 274 pages. Published by Belwin Music (AP.BDM00037).

Item Number: AP.BDM00037
ISBN 0757933807.

MIchael Story has skillfully re-scored the finale from Holst's Second Suite in F making the combination of "Dargason Dance" and "Greensleeves" approachable for young band. The key signature is better suited for this level and the variations have been mildly adapted for accessibility. The energy of the original has been retained. Don't miss this classic band work on your next program. (3:00).

  • November 16, 2008 Fantasia on the "Dargason"...

I like the tune, but the song is REALLY repetative. I play the clarinet and I played the same tune for about the whole song. Other than that, it's neat. The mixing of that and "Greensleeves" was odd, but cool.

We played this in 7th and 8th grade bands. It's a level 2 piece, I believe. The Alto Saxophone part is fun--it has some harmony and some melody. The trumpet part, though I didn't play it, is very cool, with the "Greensleeves" theme. Flute and clarinet parts...

are very repetitive with what starts as the melody--my friend, a flautist, disliked this. The piece begins in 6/8 and partway through the trumpets go into 3/4--very, very cool. Great effect. I loved playing this piece.

  • February 06, 2007 a little to easy

This song is very catchy, but my school had a special all county band and it was to easy for 7th and 8th grades. All I ever played were quarter notes and half notes tied together. I found myself letting my mind wander to often.

we played this in our school band, and we've only been playing almost 2 years. wasn't too challenging. catchy tune, you'll be humming it and playing it on your instrument without even realizing it!
