Gustave Samazeuilh was born in Bordeaux on June 2nd, 1877. He was a student of Ernest Chausson, worked with Vincent D'Indy, and was also associated with Paul Dukas. Despite a long career, his compositional output is small, dating mainly from before 1930; he is known primarily as music critic for La Republique Francaise and other publications, and as music engraver and translator (it was he who translated Tristan and Isolde into French).
