    IJsselstein, the Netherlands, Europe
    Difficulty Level:
  • November 13, 2008 Good set !

This arrangement is a real classic. The instrumentation of mister Cailliet must reflect the intentions of mr. Wagner in this precious inheritance of the Romantic Era in the most concise manner. Minor drawbacks are in the way of printing. To modern standards, quite little paper is used, especially the score...

is hard to read, the "black passages" with many notes are a little blurred too. A very good point for European users is that a complete international set is included. It's a pity however that the contrabass clarinet is left out.

    Ponte Vedra, Florida
    Difficulty Level:
  • January 26, 2007 Graceful and Elegant

This song portrays the beauty and innocence of a young girl (Elsa), and is peaceful. A baby could think it was a quiet lulliby, and fall asleep while listening to it. This piece needs total control over breathing, rhythm, and counts. The piece itself really makes you think, and is...

    a masterpiece in itself.

    Ralston, Nebraska
  • March 03, 2003 Cailliet faithful to Wagner's intentions

While not familiar with the Campbell-Watson collaboration, I had the great pleasure of performing Elsa's Procession under the baton of Lucien Cailliet in Kenosha in 1958 and the experience was life-changing. If your musicians decline to play at the grand tempo intended, better not to play it...

    at all.
