  • April 30, 2011 Good introduction to Dupre

This is a good introduction to the music of this revered and prolific twentieth-century French composer. May be used for teaching and church services. A good collection of ancient hymns in modern settings.

These short preludes are from Dupré's Opus 45, and include 3 hymns to Mary, and 5 hymns about the Blessed Sacrament. Each prelude includes a brief phrase identifying the modal chant it's based on; most are 2 pages in length, only 2 are 3 pages long. The music...

is written on 2 staves and includes registration suggestions. Some pieces require 2 manuals, others can be played on one. Only one piece indicates some pedal. Less difficult than his "Seventy-Nine Chorales for the Organ, Op. 28". These nicely printed pieces are very useful for Communion services and Marian Feasts.
