In this book there are 15 lessons. 8 technique / warm up exercises and 7 easy solos. If you're a beginner, learn the the technique of the 8 warm up exercises and practice. Plus the 7 solos are entertaining enough to impress the coffee shop crowd. If you're a...

This is the book that started it all for me. I still enjoy it. Mr. Mel Agen's other book is even better.(Flamenco Music for Acoustic Guitar)

    Difficulty Level:
  • August 12, 2004 A Good First Flamenco Book

I also have Juan Martin's first book of Flamenco. This is an easier place to start. I play some reasonably interesting classical pieces (Parkening's arrangement of Gymnopedie No.1 by Satie, for example) but I couldn't really get a flamenco sound. This book gets me right there...

. The exercises are good but I skimmed over them up to number 6, which is where it gets more intersting. The pieces sound great but they are not too long or difficult to learn (I love that!) The performance CD is very helpful, as always. I think they give a pretty good overview of the basic techniques used in flamenco. I can immediately see ways I can incorporate them into other songs I play. I also feel I can make some pretty good Flamenco sound just improvising around chord patterns now. I like this book. A good bargain. Six months on this and I'll try to tackle J. Martin again ...

    Difficulty Level:
  • July 13, 2004 A good starter!

My first flamenco book! A little sketchy on terminology but a good intro into quite a dificult art form. If you thought flamenco was just playing the chords E F G E think again. It would be useful to have had a good basic intro into playing classical music before...

attempting this book even though the first few execises appear easy. Flamenco requires very good hand eye co-ordination as you have to play chords, single line phrases and also tapping in a fluent manner. Having said this, their are some lovely tunes in this book which i can play badly! Very spanish sounding! Don't rush the initial exercises work at coherent fluency and then the concert pieces will be marginally easier.
