    San Jose, CA
    Difficulty Level:
  • February 28, 2012 Contemporary Solo for Older Students

This is an early Ned Rorem song. I have used this solo as an audition piece for several years. It is a graceful song for mezzo or baritone, demonstrating range and interpretive nuance. However, the piano part is not difficult so most audition pianists have no trouble sight reading it...

AND following the singer. It's gentle "jazzy" feel makes it stand out amongst the usual classical fare, yet it's sophistication qualifies it to stand in the classical idiom.
