  • January 16, 2009 Best second book to get

This is the best (second book) a beginning banjo player should get. Bluegrass Banjo by Peter Wernick should be your first. Bluegrass Banjo will teach you "everything" you need to know before you move up to this. The songs in this book are the real thing. Earl Scruggs at his...

best. This book comes with a cd (used to be a record album) that is great but it does not include most of the songs in the book. you need to get some Flat and Scruggs cds so you can hear all of the songs. I did this almost 30 years ago and it made me the player I am today. If you learn this book, your friends and family will beg you to play at every cookout, party, and hoe down.

  • April 25, 2007 Best instruction manual for banjo

I think I have most of the available instruction manuals for playing the five string banjo. This is the best I've seen -- recognizing that what is good for one player may not be so good for another. It's also fun to have Earl Scruggs himself taking you thru...

the paces step by step -- and he's less complicated than I had expected.
