Clarinet, Woodwind Choir or Ensemble, Clarinet choir, alto clarinet, bass clarinet, Eb clarinet, contra alto clarinet, dectet/decet - Intermediate
Composed by Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904). Arranged by Ray Thompson. Score, Set of Parts. 19 pages. Published by RayThompsonMusic (S0.161953).

Item Number: S0.161953

Written for string orchestra, I have arranged it for clarinet dectet/decet, also known as a clarinet choir of 2 Eb, 4 Bb, 2 Alto, 1 Bass and 1 Contra alto. ( Alternative bass provided for the contra alto)

Transposed into F from E to assist the clarinettist.

Dvořák is said to have written this Serenade in just 12 days, from 3–14 May. The piece was premiered in Prague on 10 December 1876 by Adolf Čech and the combined orchestras of the Czech and German theatres.

This is one of his best known tunes,

Rather than simply transcribing the parts, I have tried to imagine how Dvorak would have written it for wind ensemble, so have spread the string parts around, rather than always giving violin 1 to the eb clarinets..

I have added sustaining notes  for the altos in some places.

I have also tried to give the player somewhere to breath, so restricted the tutti passages.

Hope it becomes a useful companion piece to his Serenade for Wind Op.44. (also arranged for wind dectet)

I intend to arrange further movements idc.
