Driven is a piece of music composed for the New Music Ensemble, with the main focus being in 7/8 rhythm, the raw percussiveness of each instrument involved, and subtle complexities in the contrasting sections. The title, Driven, comes from the often relentless downbeat rhythm, which continues to push the music forward as it progresses through to the end. The listener can interpret the music in many ways. Some suggestions would be how it’s driven by the rhythm, so the listener is driven to love/loathe the music or driven to insanity by it’s relentlessness. The full interpretation is down to the audience member.
