    Painesville, OH
    Difficulty Level:
  • April 14, 2012 Dr. John teached New Orleans Piano-Vol. 2

This cd along with vol.1 are two of the most informative teaching series I've ever encountered. Just to be able to listen to Dr. John discuss all the greats of New Orleans and Blues Piano is wonderful. The printed music is not intended to be any more than...

    a musical guide.

Many of the songs listed are not scored at all... they are simply talked/written about. For example "Such a Night" is listed on Page 23 and Page 30... however, there is NO musical score at all... just words talking about the some of the songs features... very disappointed....

    Difficulty Level:
  • February 01, 2009 Disappointing

This book and CD was a little disappointing - I'd expected transcriptions of the songs listed in the contents - however for many of the songs (including "such a night") there is no transcript, just a recording of it being played (which most Dr John fans will ahve already), and him...

raving about the need to play it differently. And many of the transcripts end part way through the piece with "etc" ... However once I got over all, the transcripts that are there are great.

    Difficulty Level:
  • March 06, 2008 Misleading printed music content list

Printed music for content list of this book is not included for several titles. "Such a Night", for instance, is only available for listening on the accompanying CD, with written analysis and commentary about it in the book. This is also true for:"Sweet Sixteen Bars", "Got My Mojo Working...

", "Georgia", "Drifting", and "Blues Ballad".
