  • March 27, 2012 GREAT

the CD is the best part of the bundle and alone worth the price! Mac lays it all out - the history, the tradition, the terminology, his own thoughts behind his work and much more. Though you need at least some jazz background to dive confidently in the material...

  • March 06, 2008 Not all songs in print form

No printed music for:"Albert Ammons Boogie", "How Long","Down by the Riverside", "Whirlaway". Songs are available for listening to on the accompanying CD with a written analysis or commentary about them in the book. Informative, but not what I was hoping for.

  • February 28, 2008 A little disappointed....

The sheet music itself in the book is good but the order and the structure of how it was written was not done well. Some music he plays on the disc is not in the book? All together it is OK but there's not much about breaking down the...

style of his playing. Just learn the transcriptions given and take what you can from it.

  • February 17, 2005 Good stuff

As far as learning Louisiana style blues, this series of books is a really great tool. The cd has Dr. John himself speaking while he plays, which is awesome. There is a detailed version of each style and then a breakdown as to what the bass line is doing and...

then the chord styles and licks. I highly reccomend this book.
