  • February 17, 2001 Fine edition of CPE's last concerto

This reprint of Erwin Jacobi's 1950s edition of C.P.E. Bach's final concerto is wonderful to have; of Bach's multiple harpsichord concerti, very few are even today available in print. The scholarship is commendable, even though there are a few inconsistencies with regard to dynamics and...

so forth in the full score (I have not seen the parts). These lapses are probably due to the source material, which was a set of contemporary parts in the Brussels Royal Conservatory; at the time Jacobi edited his edition, it appears that the autograph of Wq. 47 was not known to have survived World War II (it has, one of the few Berlin Singakademie treasures to have endured the war). Any edition of a concerto by Emanuel Bach is worth owning, and this is a very good one, with an insightful preface by Jacobi in German and English.
